2018 marks ten years since our helicopter flew its first life-saving mission. Watch the video below to find out more...
We are the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity
A life-saving crew of Critical Care Doctors and Specialist Paramedics in Critical Care, called to the most severe medical emergencies and cases of trauma across Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset, Gloucestershire, and South Gloucestershire.
We attend an average of 5 incidents every single day, and demand for our service is increasing.
That’s why it’s vital that we’re able to provide stability to our operations.
Our previous hangar in Filton dated to before the First World War. We had to move out this year, which is a lot of upheaval for our crew.
Our landlords have built a purpose-built air base at Almondsbury, and we currently have a ten year lease. But that means after 10 years, we may have to move again.
Except now we’ve been offered the opportunity of a lifetime.
One which will secure our service for the future and enable our crew to work from a base that provides everything they need to continue their vital work.
The new air base will cost us £2 million to buy, but we’ve only got until December to raise the £1 million we need to make this dream a reality. On top of that, we also need to raise £250,000 to kit the air base out too.
As a charity, we receive no day-to-day funding from the Government or National Lottery. We rely on the generous donations of our supporters to stay operational.
